Mismatched, Magical, still in Motion
Living the 40s is a strange ride. It feels like I’ve already lived a full life—and yet, here I am, still building another one, this time with my kid in tow.
My playlists span seven decades, and some mornings I’ve googled seven kinds of body pain before breakfast. I’ve collected degrees, built a career, made a home. I’ve trudged through dark days like a good girl following the script. Somewhere along the way, the fire to “do better, be better” flickered. But I still do what I love—and love what I do. These days, my celebrations are quieter, my doubts louder. Gratitude comes often. So do questions that don’t always need answers. And still dreams linger. Parts of me wait to be discovered.
The 40s are a curious in-between: part seasoned veteran, part wide-eyed rookie. I know enough to be wise, but not enough to stop reaching out for 'more'.
This Life 2.0 revolves so much around being a parent, it’s easy to lose sight of myself. Every day starts and ends with the all-consuming desire to give my kid the best. Then I remind myself, these exchanges are two-ways, always. Kids watch their parents and model their lives on them. Like we grew up to be the parents who live their days for the kids, sacrificing everything that is 'personal', chasing perfection - we are setting up ourselves as role models of exact same behavior for them. And if they see us living only for them, constantly sacrificing joy, perfection-hunting, neglecting ourselves—they’ll learn to do the same. They will probably be endlessly grateful (like we are to our parents), yet clueless how to lead their lives for themselves. We owe them better. We owe ourselves better. So I add one more thing to my never-ending list: Live a little. Just for me.
Did I mention how absurdly contradictory my Life 2.0 plans are? It is messy, and it is mine.
